2005, the year that made little sense.
I was thinking about the year that just passed us - very fast, I might add. Although the tsunami occured in 2004, the repercussions and complete ramifications of its wrath and fury were only felt in 2005. More than 1.5 lakh people died in this catastrophe. My heart goes out to all of them. The reaction of the whole world with the help and aid that came pouring into southeast Asia was really a great thing to see. From a natural catastrophe to a man-made one. The war in Iraq has till date claimed more than 1 lakh lives alone. Makes one wonder whether nature really is such a great force. Speaking of natural disasters, the hurricanes Katrina and Rita wreaked much havoc on the Gulf coast of the United States. Many people criticized the response of the US government to both the tragedies. However, the most shocking phenomenon was the looting that took place there. Then came the earthquake in north India and Pakistan. Although I don't understand the Indian government's decision to help Pakistan, I do understand the plight of the people there. So here's to a senseless year, hurrah!
